Discuss the issues raised by the increasing globalisation of media institutions and their ability to target national audiences.
As media institutions increase and grow in numbers, then the raw talent and the actually good artists will become more and more unknown. Artists such as Justin Beiber are not that talented but they represent a typical teenage who in all seriousness, made it. He represents something for all girls to admire and

Case Studies - Releasing an album
Anna Calvi

This is Anna Calvi's new album cover. This is an atmospheric, prolific, dark record but not depressing it’s uplifting. It’s definitely a grower but when it gets in, you’re hooked. The soundscapes that immerge immerse you into another world, Anna’s world we presume, all of it organic no fakery here.

The online revolution
The online revolution has proved as damaging to independent labels as to multinational companies. How far do you agree?
I agree with this statement because, both large and small music companies have their own set of artists and bands, and both require a certain income from those artists to keep the company going. As a large company has a larger number of artists, then they are going to need a larger income and for a smaller company a smaller income. So whatever the amount of illegal downloads that take place both company's are at a loss. This means that both small and large music company's will make a loss and be affected.
This is supported by company's such as Sony BMG as a large company who are affected, and Domino as a smaller company. Both are suffering from losses because of illegal downloading from internet users.
For example certain companies such as LimeWire and Napstar, have been shut down and sued because of the damage that they cause to record company's.

Representation in T.V drama : British social history
1) This article explains and evaluates the affect that the T.V represents social stereotypes and other generalized groups in social life. It explores how the T.V Company’s mould their products around the audience they are intending to attract and what affect social stereotypes has on certain T.V shows.
2) In 1944 the education act was introduced which means that lower and middle class people, could attend grammar schools so that they can expand their playwriting skills, playwrights such as John Osborne and Arnold Wesker both flourished in this period and became extremely prolific writers.
3) Repositioning in terms of social class means that the social class shifted in a way that made going to school and being from a lower class background actually an advantage so that the playwright and TV drama writers could draw from their poorer background to create a better show.
4) The script for the 9th of December 1960 included colloquial expressions such as “chuck” “nowt”, and this introduced audiences to working class matriarchs like Elise Tanner and Ena Sharples.
5) Black Writers and Producers have struggled to get anywhere in the T.V industry during the 1900’s because the industry was dominated by white Germans/Americans so there was no need for black writers, but later on they made their mark.
6) I believe tat in British T.V dramas disability is portrayed as being an acceptable thing, but is somewhat preyed upon by some black comedy writers, although this black comedy is funny to most teens to early twenties, but to actually disabled people and over 25’s it is seen as a disgrace and prejudiced.
7) In the 1970’s women were portrayed as pretty much always being the exception fro the rule, mainly being all powerful and rulers. But after this they were some what shown as being a stereotype of just a maid which was hated by some viewers. And now the women in all shows are meant to be given an equal role to men.
8) Lincoln challenges the stereotype of men as being masculine and butch, by introducing an openly gay character portrayed in a very different light, and this produced magazine such as FHM and LOADED.
9) Masculine code is a code that all men go by, which suggests that all men are masculine and are the dominant gender.
10)“Talking Heads”, challenges the frail and innocent stereotype of old people, with a group of elderly people exchanging sexual favors for money, this is quite a controversial idea but it is what the T.V Company’s need nowadays to shock the public into watching.
11)Stephen Hill says that Skins is about under-age sex, drugs, homosexuality and alcoholism and that there are many unofficial “skins Parties”, which are advertised on Facebook and Bebo, this depiction he has of skins also does paint a bad image on teenage lifestyle. For example, if an elderly person read this then they would have an overall view of teens that this is all they do.
12)Monarch of the Glen, showed young people in a very bad light, it portrayed teens as being very naive and stupid. This show has a very stereotypical view on young people compared to older more mature and more hard-working people.
Analysing music in TV drama
1) Music is extremely important in TV drama it sets the mood, the period, and the situation, Music is specially composed to the certain drama to create an atmosphere and in some cases to rise and fall to represent the certain emotion of different characters and situations.
2) Synchronisation
3) Repeated association is a certain type of music representing a certain group or a certain section of society, for example the royle family on television is represented with a regal genre behind them.
4)If the director does not choose to represent emotion in the music then the acting is not supported and not backed up by anything, for example if there was a very sombre and sad moment without music tis storyline would be unelievable and wouldn't hit the viewer as much as if there was music.
5)Leitmotif is when a certain sound of jingle is always linked to a certain character or object. This type of music can help the viewer connect more with the person/object and also create a better drama allthogether.
6)Music is used to structure drama by 4 ways, 1- emotion, 2- time period, 3- Setting the atmosphere/scene and 4 - Bridge to link two scenes together.
7) Digetic music is music that the characters in the programme can actually hear and relate to.
8) He selects music for the show, from live gigs, up and coming new artists and in some cases mailed demo tapes.
In conclusion, this article explores and develops the way im which we view the T.V drama industry as a whole, this will help us decide and develop what we watch and how we are shown the industry. this article explains what the producers and makers of the dramas are aiming for and how they hit their targets and even further them.

Music Industry Homework
Developments in technology have changed the way the music industry operates because the further the technology advances the easier and more advanced the music industry can become. For example if the recording and modifying equipment evolve and become much more powerful and much more technologically advanced the better the music will become, the sound quality will get much better and the way the music is produced will become more readily available and in better forms.
The relationship between artist and audience has also changed due to new technology evolving, this is because when new tech comes out ad makes the artists music more readily available and better it entices the audience to get it, it makes it so much easier to get and enjoy.
The way in which the technology in the music industry evolves helps the artists and audience connect more freely, the technology will help the music produce better sounds, better equipment and better artists all round, this will increase sales and fans, which will ultimately help the industry in whole.
As technology advances, the actual industry will also advance as a whole, for example with new production and editing equipmet, this will evolve the way in which the industry produce the artists first and future albums, gaining maximum revenue from their signings.
Over the past 20 - 30 years the music industry has chnaged and evolved hugely and extremely rapidly, for example the merging of massive music companys like the Universal music group has helped take music onto the next level, this has also been a big factor in trying to stop illegal downloading.
Illegal downloading has damaged artists and record lables far and wide, it decreases revenue and quality, if downloads continue illegally it could in fact mean the end for the smaller record labels, and most certain damage te revenue of larger ones.
Universal music group has had a huge input on expanding and developing the music industry that you see today, for example it has links and hundreds of smaller record labels under it supporting and helping them. Universal music group is now owned by Vivendi, which because of owning this huge company is now one of the largest producers and suplliers of music in the world.
During this expansion over the pas 20 or so years there have been a number of music sharing websites cropping up that are legal, and provide music for free but at the same time support the artists and company, for example, a website called Spotify, has helped get up and coming artists into the mainstream whilst, letting snipits of new songs be streamed through their website, this is extremely beneficial for all partys and it expands the artsist and companys audience range.
Itunes has helped provide downloaddble, affordable and excellant quality music, for a small price for many years now, and this music is now available everywhere, due to it being on phones and ipods.
